The Adventures of Elsabeth Soesten by D. E. Wyatt

Mensaje por Julio777 »

Greetings. Today I want to share a little bit of a series of books that I am currently reading,
"The Adventures of Elsabeth Soesten", written by D. E. Wyatt, who is a relatively new author. So far there are two books, "No Good Deed..." and "Bait and Switch", and I think those who are into European medieval fencing will love them, because the author does know plenty on this topic. The story flows fluidly and is very well-written, so if you like fiction with a touch of adventure in the Middle Age, you will certainly enjoy this story.

Here, a brief description of both books as seen on Amazon:

No Good Deed...

"Elsabeth Soesten is always in trouble. Her comrade-in-arms Brother Hieronymus has just dragged her into a deal with the Abbot of Friuli to recover stolen church property, but what began as a simple good deed (with a bit of church coin as incentive) soon finds the pair swept up into a conspiracy against the Prince-Bishop of Bremen. Trapped between an agent of the Bishop on one hand and the Abbot on the other, the only way out is to unravel the Abbot’s plans and find out just what they have to do with the reclusive Baron of Leyen.
And just maybe they can work their way out of the whole mess with heads still attached and purses a little fatter."

Bait and Switch

“There are certain things in the world that are real and others which belong in the realm of minstrels’ fancies. Elsabeth and Brother Hieronymus quickly find these lines becoming blurred when they accept a job to escort a youth named Maerten and his guardian to the Navarrese village of Checy. It is said that a powerful wizard dwells in the wilderness nearby, and Maerten is seeking him out in hopes that his magic can reveal the truth about his past. Despite her skepticism, Elsabeth finds herself unable to refuse the boy’s request, and soon she and Hieronymus are drawn kicking and screaming into the tale of a destroyed kingdom and a long-lost heir. Along the way, Elsabeth struggles to balance her growing affection for the boy in her charge with the knowledge that they must part ways when they reach their destination, and the reality of the disappointment he will face when he learns that rumors and tall tales are seldom what they seem.”
