Hello, I'm translating a novel from english to spanish and I need help with some words which translation I don't found in the dictionary.

For example, the word jerkin... for the context, I think that it's a tool, but I dindn't now what kind of tool.
This is the context:

The boy's tender face and oversized jerkin were both blackened by soot, and the young woman's face and apron were dusted whit flour.

La suave cara del chico y el/la (???) de gran tamaño estaban ennegrecidos de hollín, y la cara de la joven y su delantal estaban manchados de harina.

Can someone help me, please?

A jerkin is a garment, not a tool.

It's a kind of jacket without sleeves. The word isn't used very much in modern english.

Oversized just means it was too big for him.

I'm translating a text and I found this sentence: He was a close-cropped beard.

I asked what means close-cropped in Wordreference forums and they said me that it's "barba candado" in Argentina, but I don't know how translate it into Spanish.

Can someone help me, please?

I would translate it like this:

"El debería tener cuidado, sin embargo, para evitar que su belicoso acompañante apelara a sus propios instintos más oscuros."
