Es el primer año que hay escritores españoles nominados

El John Leonard al libro de debut se lo ha llevado Carmen María Machado con Her body and other parties mientras que el premio del círculo de críticos ha sido para Improvement de Joan Silber.

De los premios gordos norteamericanos quedan el PEN/Faulkner y el Pulitzer.
En general hay bastante consenso sobre que ha sido un año bastante flojillo, así que el Pulitzer puede sorprender, aunque la favorita es Jesmyn Ward con Sing, Unburied, Sing, que hasta la fecha ha sido nominada a tres de los premios norteamericanos más importantes (más el Women's prize) algo que es muy poco habitual (aunque entre los lectores parece que hay bastante más división de opiniones lo que tampoco me extraña porque a mí su novela anterior me generó sensaciones encontradas)

El PEN/Hemingway a la mejor primera novela ha sido para Weike Wang por Chemistry

El John Leonard al mejor debut fue para Carmen María Machado por Her body and other parties (aquí sí que había algunas novelas que habían hecho ruido, aparte de la ganadora, que es un libro de relatos, también estaban What we lose de Zinzi Clemmons, My absolute darling de Gabriel Talent y Marlena de Julie Buntin, espero que esta última se traduzca porque me apetece mucho leerla)

Solo nos queda Muñoz Molina (con una novela que por cierto tampoco es que fuera recibida con mucha fanfarria por la crítica patria), pero ha estado bien que este año haya habido representación española.

Lo cierto es que el ganador estaba en las predicciones de la página que suelo ver, pero ni yo (ni por lo que veo) la mayoría de los que suelen andar por ahí le había hecho mucho caso.

De los tres solo The idiot me es conocido
