He visto varios videos de booktubers (el women's prize suele dar bastante juego en youtube) haciendo sus predicciones y aunque había leído algunos de los que estaban en las listas de candidatos, lo cierto es que no he leído ninguna de las novelas nominadas.

Aunque sí he leído novelas anteriores de Madeline Miller y Sally Rooney, y también tengo Un matrimonio americano en casa.

En principio me sorprende la ausencia de Rebecca Makkai aunque en este premio siempre han ido bastante por libre

No lo sabía. Vi que lo decían en las noticias el otro día y pensé que era algo reciente.

Se ha vuelto a comentar estos días porque lo ha confirmado un académico en una entrevista y además la Academia sueca ha emitido una nota de prensa:

Pues a mí me parece genial, dos razones para rajar a gusto. Anda que no nos da juego el Nobel de literatura, no hay año que la gente se quede a gusto con el elegido/a

No sé si entiendo tu pregunta. Este premio es a obras ya publicadas, en este caso traducciones al inglés. Primero sacan una lista larga que se puede considerar de nominados, después la lista corta en la que el jurado ya ha eliminado algunas y finalmente de ahí eligen al ganador. Así que por el momento no han ganado nada.

Por cierto, en el mensaje de la shortlist se me olvidó poner que es la versión internacional del Man Booker, lo edito.

Pues acabo de ver que el Premio de la Bienal Vargas LLosa también ha reducido la 'longlist' a solo cinco finalistas. Algo parecido al Man Booker del que hablaba en el anterior mensaje y además también es un premio a novela ya publicada. Estos son los cinco finalistas:

Las fiebres de la memoria de Gioconda Belli (Nicaragua)
The Night de Rodrigo Blanco Calderón (Venezuela)
Vivir abajo de Gustavo Faverón Patriau (Perú)
Sur de Antonio Soler (España)
Ordesa de Manuel Vilas (España)

¿Estos qué han ganado? No termino de entender esos premios tan multitudinarios.
Con excepción del Pulitzer (que por cierto se falla mañana) todos los premios importantes siguen esta estructura, que para mí es con mucha diferencia la mejor, ya que más allá del premio al ganador se le da una exposición mediática a los finalistas.

Generalmente la cosa va así, primero longlist (entre 10 y 12 nominados), segundo (sobre un mes más tarde) la shorlist (con los finalistas, generalmente cinco o seis) y finalmente el ganador.

El resultado en el caso del Booker es que todos suelen aumentar sus ventas de manera considerable (bien es cierto que buena parte de ellos no se vendían casi nada antes de la nominación). Además como son premios a novelas publicadas siempre dan pie a un debate interesante sobre quien se han dejado fuera y qué novelas no sonaban a nadie antes de la nominación
