Title:The Book of Lost Things Author:John Connolly Published:2006 Pages:339
High in his attic bedroom, twelve-year-old David mourns the death of his mother, with only the books on his shelf for company. But those books have begun to whisper to him in the darkness. Angry and alone, he takes refuge in his imagination and soon finds that reality and fantasy have begun to meld. While his family falls apart around him, David is violently propelled into a world that is a strange reflection of his own -- populated by heroes and monsters and ruled by a faded king who keeps his secrets in a mysterious book, The Book of Lost Things.
Taking readers on a vivid journey through the loss of innocence into adulthood and beyond, New York Times bestselling author John Connolly tells a dark and compelling tale that reminds us of the enduring power of stories in our lives.

Read the first three chapters. I feel very touched with David, he is a very sensible and special boy.
He did a lot of things because he thought that in that way he could "save" his mother from death . Finally, his mother died and after some time, he started suffering some kind of attacks in which he sees book's scenes.
The poor kid discovered afterwards that his father was dating another woman and they moved in with her. Now he has a new brother and he is dreaming with a creature name Crooked Man.
so sad, with David doing those things to keep her mother alive. It's sad that he feels guilty for her death, or at least, guilty for failing to avoid it
Now,
he has started to listen to his mother's voice, but I think that it's a trap, it could be the Crocked trying to attract David to his world
is now at the Forest, he got there after hearing and following his mother voice. There he found the Woodman, who is helping him and they encountered the Werewolfs! In that forest also live Harpies and Trolls. It reminds me of the Forbidden Forest of Harry Potter series
I find some kind of crude the descriptions of the violence of the werewolfs to kill, and what they did to their breeding in order to strenghten the species
Now David saw the Trolls (which are not as tall as I imagined them ) and he is trying to solve their riddle.
I also enjoy the Woodman's tales
the one of Red Hood amazed me: Red Hood seduced the wolf and had a child with him!! The one about Hansel and Gretel was not so different from the original.
the story of Little Red Riding Hood It has been a surprise the change of the tale. The girl making out with the wolf That was shocking. And the way of telling the tale was funny.
The second tale,
Hansel y Gretel was closer to the original, as happykent said.
The part with the trolls
was again sad. The poor Woodman had failed against the werewolves He was helping David a lot and now he is alone again in a world of magic and fairy tales.
I have met
Snow White and the dwarfs This tale is surprising as Little Red Riding Hood. Who is going to expect a fat and rude Snow White? And the tale reveals some interesting aspect of the original: a girl who is living with 7 little men (weird), a prince who kisses an unknown woman who is asleep, the dwarfs trying to frame the witch (but she had an alibi) That was fun
I forgot coming here to comment the book. I finished it and I really like it.

This part is the funniest part of the book, this Snow White
is very horrible and the poor dwarfs living under her oppression
The book we could say is a
kind of transition between childhood and youth. But David made it in a real way. He goes into this fantastic world and has to face one by one all his fears.
