La versión de NetGalley que yo he leído tiene las ilustraciones en blanco y negro, cosa que no sé si sucede también en el libro en papel. Desde luego, si las mantienen, es una pena, porque hay fotos que llaman la atención en blanco y negro y cuadros de los que te habla del color. En fin.

A lo que iba, el libro empieza por el paso de Van Gogh por Arles y, con él como excusa para iniciar la historia, va contando la historia de la iglesia de San Trófimo y el cementerio de Alyscamps, básicamente desde Roma hasta la restauración del pórtico años después de la estadía del pintor.


Parte muy importante, y la que más me ha gustado a mí, es la que dedica al papel de la iglesia y el cementerio dentro del camino de Santiago y de la ordenación urbana, y la reutilización de los sarcófagos. Aunque yo creo que esto es realmente el centro del libro y Van Gogh simplemente alguien que pintó allí y pasó más tiempo que Gauguin o Henry James, que también se mencionan en bastantes ocasiones. Sobre todo por la cantidad de veces que menciona la Guía del Camino de Santiago
